Do you get excited when you hear the words “Spring Cleaning”?  I do! It feels so good to clear off the dust and revamp the living space.  I love opening the windows and letting the fresh air in after a long winter season.

From rotating your seasonal items to going room-by-room for a deep clean, there are definite health benefits in decluttering and cleaning your house. (Read more about the benefits here written by Healthline.com).

Special Areas To Clean

When it’s time to do my spring cleaning, I often focus on areas that I don’t usually get to during my regular weekly clean.

  • Inside the fridge, microwave and oven
  • Behind appliances
  • Doorknobs and light switches
  • Underneath furniture
  • Sofa and chairs
  • Curtains and blinds
  • Ceiling fans and light fixtures
  • Windows, carpets
  • Garbage and recycling bins

Tips – Things To Look Out For

  • Repair items and address potential problems e.g. clogged drain, leaking eavestroughs
  • Broken items – if it can’t be fixed, then it’s time to let it go
  • Are you ready to garden? Check your garden tools and make sure they are in good shape
  • Donate clothes that no longer fit
  • While rotating your seasonal items, check and see if jackets still fit for growing children, if there are any single gloves/mitts that you can get rid of.
  • Sell or give away items that no longer serve your current lifestyle

Think outside the box

Other than the traditional spring cleaning list, I’d like to give you some cleaning “areas” that you might not have thought of.  Similar to the conventional spaces, many of these areas can accumulate clutter.

  • Your ideas list
  • Inspiration photos and links
  • Your phone – text messages, emails and photos
  • Your ebooks and podcast collection

As Mark Twain said, “The secret to getting ahead is just starting”.  So start getting your home spring ready, refresh your living space and enjoy!
